Рецензируемый сборник является одним из результатов международного проекта «Европейские пространства границ (EUBORDERSCAPES): процессы разграничивания, политические ландшафты и социальные арены. Эволюция концепций границы в мире после окончания холодной войны». Проект реализовывался в 2012–2016 гг.международным междисциплинарным исследовательским консорциумом под руководством Университета Восточной Финляндии (Йоенсуу) при поддержке 7-й рамочной программы Европейской комиссии.
