Книга американского социолога Дженнифер Утраты представляет собой одно из самых глубоких исследований семейной жизни и гендерных отношений в постсоветской России. В фокусе внимания автора – одинокое материнство. Однако работу можно рассматривать как более широкое антропологическое исследование влияния экономических и культурных трансформаций, связанных с переходом от социализма к рыночному капитализму, на семью и гендерные отношения (см. также Ashvin 2000; Rivkin-Fish 2010; Rotkirsh 2000; Zdravomyslova 2010).
