Книга Бенжамина Тромли «Создание советской интеллигенции: университеты иинтеллектуальная жизнь при Сталине и Хрущеве» прослеживает рождение из духа университета позднесоветской интеллигенции в период с 1946 по 1964 год. На основе детального изучения различных реалий университетской жизни, от поступления до распределения, от учебы до участия в кружках и поэтических чтениях, от сталинских репрессий до хрущевских, автор показывает, как формировалось самосознание и мировоззрение молодых специалистов.
